Episode 20 Michelle and OLOH

Michelle talks about her experiences and her non-profit One Life One Heart International – OLOH

Episode  20 Michelle talks about her experiences of child sexual abuse and about her non-profit, One Life One Heart International – OLOH.

This is the first part of two recordings of an interview with Dr Michelle M. Kang, who contacted me via my website. Part of her story is on the Guest blog page:  Sibling Sexual Abuse. You can download Michelle’s story on the home page of the OLOH website.

In the second part, Michelle and Cultures, we talk about the differences and similarities around public awareness of child sexual abuse in the countries Michelle has lived in. She also asks me a couple of questions.

Michelle shares some of her lived experience of csa. The abuse by her brother, cousin and teacher caused her to sink into herself; she was out of control at times.

She tried to bury memories of the traumatic events but they never left her. Her attempts to erase the traumatic events led to a deterioration in her overall memory.

Michelle experienced a lot of abuse during her life. She has helped her own recovery through readings and prayers.

Michelle founded her non-profit, One Life One Heart, while she was living in the US. It is a community based programme which helps survivors of sexual abuse on their journey to healing and empowerment.

The programme serves the mental health care of sexual abuse survivors by carefully selected volunteers providing the programme in their own community. Michelle has developed the programme through a combination of her own experiences and thorough research.

The main focus is upon empathic listening, which is a similar, client-centred approach to the counselling that I had at Safeline.

The OLOH programme will be running a pilot in December 2022.

The journey to recovery from child sexual abuse or any other form of abuse or trauma, is long and painful. However you choose to find support and help on that journey, it is worth it. There is hope for recovery.

Thank you for listening.
